What it is

Adipotide (FTPP) was developed at MD Anderson as a vascular-targeting therapy for obesity. In primate studies it produced significant fat loss, but consistently caused renal toxicity at active doses. It remains research-only and is not appropriate for human use outside controlled trials.

Mechanism

Targeted pro-apoptotic peptidomimetic. Binds prohibitin on adipose vasculature, selectively pruning the blood supply to white adipose tissue.

Outcomes it's matched to
Safety

Known dose-dependent kidney toxicity in primates. Not safe for use without nephrology monitoring.

  • Any pre-existing renal impairment
  • Pregnancy
  • Hypertension
Legal context

Not approved. Trial program halted at human Phase I due to nephrotoxicity.
