Melanotan I
Also: Afamelanotide · MT-1
The first-generation tanning peptide. More selective than Melanotan II, with a cleaner side-effect profile.
Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is the approved variant used clinically as Scenesse for erythropoietic protoporphyria. Unlike Melanotan II it is MC1R-selective, which avoids most of the libido and nausea effects associated with MC4R activation. Pigmentation develops gradually over weeks of subcutaneous loading dosing.
Selective α-MSH analog at the MC1R receptor, stimulating eumelanin synthesis in melanocytes for UV-protective pigmentation.
